Plus I was able to also hook it up to an old dish to get a free TV guide (the most basic dish or better works because it runs on the Sat A transponder). I lucked out and snagged a Hughes for $20. ![]() Now on another front like the TiVo's, the satellite tuners that support OTA tuning were quite expensive and therefore high quality builds. Seemed like most of the CECB's were built pretty well. I've heard Zeniths and their Insignia clones were built pretty stout too. Mom still uses a couple of RCA's in spare rooms. It is plugged into the same power strip(s) as my Denon receiver that has worked flawlessly for eight years (I love Denon). I have them in a place that is air conditioned, uses a surge protector (recent), with good air flow. I believe Hauppage has the record for 20 months. I don't remember all of them but I've used Homeworx, Mediasonic, hauppage and others. My problem: I've tried different brands of digital tv converter boxes and they die on me anywhere from 4 months to 20 months. I just have to hook it up to a digital converter box. ![]() I don't need to record and I have a nice antenna that connects via a coaxial cable and it works great. I watch about once per week in the fall for NFL games. I have a projector that (of course) does not have a digital converter for tv signals. Specifically, have any of you had good luck with specific brands? I just wanted to get some opinions on digital converter boxes.
